What does Chitchats Book Express have to offer you??

When it comes to many of the online book listing venues, the shipping credit provided is often quite insufficient to cover your costs. Canadian book sellers are at a huge disadvantage as compared to your American counterparts. Not only does it take longer from Canada, but many buyers won't pay the added cost of shipping via Canada Post.

Often it is cheaper to ship a parcel from the US to Canada than it is from Canada to Canada. If you were able to use 'USPS MEDIA MAIL' or any of the other USPS services such as Global Priorlty and Priority Mail Flat Envelopes and Boxes, you and your customers would save money. These services would also allow you to offer faster delivery times and tracking, all of which would give you a happier repeat customer. Other advantages available at USPS are online 'Delivery Confirmation' with many services offering confirmation for only 14 cents and insurance for as little as $1.35 for $50.00 US.

Not only do you know if a package has been delivered to your USA customer, you will reduce chargebacks by paypal as you have proof of delivery. I get emails from customers asking where their parcel is quite often. Every now and again I find it was already delivered. and I have proof online that I can send to the customer.

USPS Media Mail is what booksellers like to use for 90% of their books. It is the most economical way to ship books. Media Mail includes books, video tapes, audio tapes, DVD's, CD's, and computer software and starts as low as $1.59 for a parcel under a pound going anywhere in the USA. Delivery Confirmation can be added for as little as 14¢ and additional insurance from $1.35 = $50.00 USD. Savings can be found on even the lightest parcel but as the books gets bigger and heavier the savings increases. As you increase your volume the cost will go down and sales will go up.

Compare USPS with a parcel from Canada and you can quickly see why US sellers have such a selling advantage.

USPS Global Priority Flat-Rate Envelopes ( 2 - 5 days delivery - holds an average hardcover book ) $9.50 USD for up to 4 lbs (if it fits securely in the packaging. No tape allowed). Also available - small envelopes (approx. paperback size) @ $5.00 USD (Please note that not all International countries accept Global Priority. Italy jumps to mind, They dont accept Global envelopes. To check, go to http://ircalc.usps.gov/ and do a calculation for your parcel - you must enter the country you are sending to. If the GP Flat Rate does not come up as an option,then the country in question is excluded.)

Envelopes available from me at just the cost of shipping them to you, or if you send me the wrapped book and it fits without being forced into a priority envelope I will do that and add the labels for a 25 cent fee. $4.05 US for the envelope. $8.10 US for the boxes. 2-3 day delivery (if it fits securely in the packaging). Economy Book M-Bag for heavy International Shipments is also a great bargain. [This option has been discontinued with Canada Post.] I personally an not a fan of M-Bags as they are very slow but some customers like the cheap slow method. There is an airmail version of the M- Bag as well.

To calculate a rate for M-Bags, go to http://ircalc.usps.gov/ and select 'Volume Mailing', and then follow the instructions. Pick "M-bag" NOT "Books and Sheet Music", then pick 'Economy M-Bag Books and Publisher".

How to ship books via Chitchats Book Express:

FIRST:

You need to subscribe to a postage printing program that prints your postage on your computer. You can print labels through paypal, or as I do I subscribe to a private company and pre-stamped your parcels for whatever  method you wish to mail your parcels by. We also have labels at a much better price the Staples or the Business depot.

You do need two addresses to register on Endica, or any other stamp service. If you dont have a US address to register on Endica, use mine. Make sure to use the PO box as the shipping address and the Pine Ave address as the Physical address. After you are registered you can change both address to the PO box as returns will come back there.

NOTE: Just use your own name or company name in place of mine. If you need INSURANCE for your parcels, Endica offers online insurance at the same time as you print your stamps. An alternative to USPS shipping insurance. (This is particularly valuable with international parcels)!

SECOND

Pickup of parcels has to be arranged. If you are outside the greater Toronto area, then we have found that Sameday is not only offering the best price, but the friendy service makes them our choice as shipper to get your books to us.

We will promptly deliver them to the States for delivery by USPS. Depending on how many parcels you mail in a week, you may want to send them twice or three times a week. Use the chart below to calculate your costs and enclose a personal check with your paperwork to cover the added shipping fees.

Other Options:

You may, if you are doing a fair volume, find it practical to change your location to that of a US seller and get a US PO Box. If you do this, we will pick your mail up and forward it on to you. We will email you with the shipping info of any checks you receive in order that you can send them in your next shipment. Book returns can be handled, but there will be costs to that or they can be saved and sent in a combined shipment. There are many Opportunities open to you as a US seller; even paying for your stamps in US $ thus saving on conversion discounts.

Requirements for USA Customs

We will send you a prefilled customs form for you to use as a guide. With that in hand, you log into the US customs site, fill out the form online and print. VERY easy.

NOTE: When registering for Endicia on-line, they require 2 addresses, a 'Physical Address' and a 'Mailing Address'. Both these addresses need to be located in the USA. If you have your own USA address, you can use that for your Physical address, but you NEED to use a Niagara Falls address for the shipping address as it identifies the Post Office that your packages will be mailed from and their Zip Code is printed on the postage section of your mailing label also mailing costs are calculated from there as well.

Payment for this service can be either by CDN or USA credit cards, as well, USA Bank transfers (but not via a Canadian bank). If you want to Register as a US seller and need a US bank and credit Card. Just ask and we will point you in the right direction. We have some sellers who have DOUBLED their sales by getting US registered and onto Amazon.com.

Getting your packages to me is an added expense for booksellers, but www.sameday.ca is the preferred shipper because of speed of receipt and cost of delivery. Pick-up service can be arranged for 2X a week quite Inexpensivly or they have a call in option as well. The heavier the box the better your savings -- consider consolidating your shipments with another bookseller in your area. This fee schedule is for those who print own postage only. Please inquire if you are a low volume shipper and do not wish to print your own postage.
